Snap n Turtle stump puller

I bought a Snap'n Turtle stump or tree puller made by Caldwell Mfg. in Texas. It looks like it originally was set up for a 3PH, but has been modified a little. Is anybody familiar with this implement? It looks like it would work great if I can mount it correctly.

This link doesn't sound like as much fun as Chief's stump puller, but the Tree Puller & Terminator 2 look interesting if they can be made for the 3PH. ....

The Snap'n Turtle has two jaws, similar to the pincers on an insect, that grab the tree trunk when you lift the three point hitch. It's very heavy duty (jaws are fabricated with 1" plate) and looks like it would pull a 6-8" tree or stump. The mounting looks like it involves some frame attachment as well as side and top links. I haven't used it as I would like to know how it was intended to be mounted. I may try to trace the patent number to get information. I haven't seen another puller that uses the three point to grab and yank the stump. It seems like a good idea as the center of pull is below the drawbar. ....

Walter, I'm not sure what you want to mount this device on, but I can tell you it would take a LOT more muscle to dead lift a 6-8" stump than the average 3pth on a CUT has. Even if it had enough upsey-ddodle in the back end it would take a LOT of front end counter balance to pull the stump out and not just do a stationary wheelie.

I do it with my full-size TLB (20,000#) and it still takes a bit of finesse sometimes.

I suspect those things are intended for BIG tractors.

Thanks Murf,
I've got a 90HP New Holland, but you bring up some important points. Maybe it's intended more for a 4" tree. I'm pretty far from Texas, so I don't know what land clearing jobs are like there. If I ever get it mounted I'll use it on sumacs, popple and similar fast growing trees. Thanks for your thoughts.
